July 2023 – Cortada challenges Hispanic Journalists on climate 🌎

Introducing the Cortada Science Art Academy Scholarship Fund; #KeepCoolMiamiDade campaign heats up

CORTADA CHALLENGES HISPANIC JOURNALISTS TO ADDRESS THE CLIMATE CRISIS

In his remarks during the opening plenary of the 2023 National Association of Hispanic Journalists Conference, artist Xavier Cortada challenged journalists to do more to address the climate crisis:

“All of you must become experts who, with love and respect for your audience, try in every possible way to engage them,” said Cortada. “The solution comes when billions of people take ownership of the problem because it belongs to them. The planet dies if our population doesn’t understand the problem, and you are the only ones who can explain that problem to all of them. The consequences are dire. You have to take responsibility and step up as leaders who deliver the unvarnished truth. You must ensure that the truth reaches and resonates. You must speak the truth.”

INTRODUCING THE CORTADA SCIENCE ART ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Cortada Science Art Academy at Pinecrest Gardens is an immersive after-school program developed by acclaimed eco-artist Xavier Cortada. Through the fusion of art and science, students in the academy gain a deeper understanding of our world, foster leadership abilities, and actively contribute to environmental conservation.

With your generous support, we can expand access to this program for local students who may not have the means to participate otherwise. Your contribution directly funds scholarships, enabling deserving children to embark on a journey of discovery, creativity, and environmental stewardship.

For every $495 scholarship you purchase, you will receive a signed, limited-edition print of Cortada’s “Vincennes,” valued at $250.

CORTADA DELIVERS "ART + CLIMATE" PRESENTATION IN CHATTANOOGA, TN

During his presentation to Chattanooga‘s cultural, environmental, and foundation leaders, Cortada discussed creative approaches to tackling the climate crisis. He encouraged them to engage the community at every step of the art-making process and passionately urged for the public art project to be centered around the fast-growing Guatemalan community. Recognizing that many of these Central American migrants sought refuge in the United States, partly due to climate-related concerns in their homeland, Cortada advocated for using art to create a sense of community and foster collaboration among the population.
