Piedra, Papel y Tijera (Rock, Paper & Scissors), a DIRECTV initiative in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Microsoft aimed at transforming the physical infrastructure of schools and educational centers while promoting the development of low-income communities throughout Latin America. The inaugural activity under this initiative will take place in the U.S. bringing together local key partners, Winmar Construction and Hands On Miami, as they physically transform the Latinos United in Action Center in the City of Miami. The makeover included the painting of Xavier Cortada’s “Native Flags” design as murals on the wall as well as planting native trees and green flags.
Executives from DIRECTV, IDB, Microsoft, Winmar Construction and Hands On Miami and other partners will unveil the newly renovated community center and help volunteers put finishing touches on Cortada’s artwork. The makeover and inaugural ceremony will be filmed as part of a television special to be broadcast exclusively on DIRECTV in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean in the Summer/ Fall 2008.
