Miami-Dade County Public Schools Celebrates Earth Day on April 22, 2011
At its meeting of March 9, 2011 the School Board approved Resolution No. 11-028 proffered by School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman, proclaiming April 22, 2011 as Earth Day in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
To mark this special day, Miami-Dade County Public Schools has again partnered with local artist Xavier Cortada on an eco-project that will consist of the planting of a native tree seedling at each school, together with the symbolic posting alongside the seedling of a land reclamation flag designed by the artist. Other partners in this canopy enhancement project include the Miami Science Museum, the Deering Estate at Cutler and the National Association of Counties.
As a companion to the tree planting activities, schools and the community at large can also view a WLRN-produced informational video throughout Earth Week, highlighting the relevance of these activities as a way to increase our community’s tree canopy.
