BRING THE RECLAMATION PROJECT TO WHERE YOU LIVE

In a recent TED Talk, I explained how I first engaged my community in addressing environmental concerns. That was back in 2006 – the birth of the Reclamation Project.

I’m a strong believer in using socially engaged art to generate awareness and action around the climate crisis, which is why I’m inviting you to bring my projects to life in your community.

Watch the video below and then check out the accompanying tool kit to see how you can grow the Reclamation Project in your community. Good luck!

RECLAMATION PROJECT

The Reclamation Project is an eco-art project that engages community members in raising awareness about, advocating for, and strategically growing mangrove forests. Installations of mangrove propagules in water-filled cups are created on the windows of public spaces as a way to pique the curiosity of passersby and provide an unexpected educational experience. Once the installations come down, volunteers work with local partners to plant the mangroves and advance policies that protect local wetlands.

For three decades, artist Xavier Cortada has worked collaboratively with communities around the world to create art projects that address important social and environmental concerns. The artist created a nonprofit, the Xavier Cortada Foundation, to grow and advance many of the socially engaged art projects.
