Frost Science

Since 2007, Xavier Cortada’s Reclamation Project has been based at the Miami Science Museum, where an installation of 1,100 mangrove seedlings was on permanent exhibit. This eco-art project launched MUVE (Museum Volunteers for the Environment) within the Frost Science Museum. According to MUVE data, over 8,000 volunteers have restored more than 25 acres of mangroves, freshwater wetlands, dune habitat and coastal forest.

The Frost Science Museum proudly displayed the latest iteration of Cortada’s participatory eco-art projects, Plan(T). By installing these salt-tolerant mangrove propagules on a window seen by hundreds of visitors every week, Frost Science advocated for a science-literate community that understands the impending consequences of sea level rise and saltwater intrusion.
