Xavier Cortada is the Artist-in-Residence for the Comparative & International Education Society 2020 Conference. This is one of the videos documenting the creation of his collaborative “Letters to the Future” mural with conference participants. Cortada invites you to participate in the art-making.  Submit your letter to the future online (click here) and he will incorporate (portions of) your letter in the collaborative mural he is creating with conference participants.

Through the act of writing letters that display some level of concern for the future, the audience acknowledges the connection that the present has with the future, in hopes of prompting awareness and solutions to issues that affect us now. This acceptance of the future is both a literal and conceptual undertaking, as the literal participation of the audience in “Letters to the Future” concurrently acts as a form of acceptance of our current environmental reality.
