Do you want to unlock the secrets of the universe? Then particle physics is for you.
Today we know more about our universe and the “stuff” that makes it up than ever before. The CERN particle accelerator, used to study the nature of matter, has been able to shine light on a host of scientific issues, while some topics are still in the dark.
The discovery of the Higgs boson, a particle fundamental to all matter but smaller than an atom, was the highlight of the first round of experiments.
In January 2015, CERN scientists will start a new round of experiments, where they will be looking for extra dimensions, dark matter and a host of other particles.

Art@CMS:FIU artist Xavier Cortada and physicist Pete Markowitz presented the five banners that celebrate the discovery of the Higgs Boson at CERN’s Point 5 platform– 100 meters above the point where the CMS Experiment discovered the particle. To see banners visit:http://cortada.com/2013/cern-in-search-of-higgs-boson/

Astronomy Day: Stargazing into the Future
Have you ever looked up and wondered what’s in the night sky? Astronomy Day: Stargazing into the Future is the Museum’s annual event that invites our visitors to look up and appreciate the wonders of the Universe – and how we observe it. This year’s event will be particularly special, as the Museum itself is celebrating a change in both space and time, as we plan for the move to our new Museum downtown Miami. Astronomy Day: Stargazing into the Future will be an extended, three-day event that has something for everyone. It will celebrate our past, present, and future – from the beginnings of our beloved planetarium in the 1960s, to our soon to be beloved state-of-the-art planetarium and exhibitions at the new Museum. The event will also pay homage and celebrate WPBT2’s Star Gazers, the world’s only weekly television series on naked eye astronomy that began its storied history at our Museum.
