Clear-cut
Part I: On our stage | Part 2: In your garden

Informed by scientists at the University of Florida School of Forest Resources and Conservation, visual artist Xavier Cortada collaborated with choreographers Whitney Wilson and Tiffany Rhynard to develop a performative piece about logging, consumerism and conservation.

Clear-cut, comprised of two parts, begins on stage where dancers invite the audience to conclude the dance by planting a sapling at home.
The work generates awareness about the choices we make as individuals and as society when we choose to produce and consume our resources.  It also engages the audience in the problem-solving.
The collaborative process that generated the work also served as a beautiful reflection of a positive method to come together as people and use our resources efficiently as many people have provided their skills, time, and resources to help build this piece, including choreographers, video designers, costume designers, scene designers, musicians, visual artists, scientists, forest specialists, and administrators.

Clear-cut is being premiered at the Swampfest Dance Festival at the University of Florida on July 31st.
