Hotels are planning a slow reopening process, expecting drive-in visitors and “staycationers” as the hospitality and tourism industry struggles with getting back on its feet.

Although Miami-Dade County allowed hotels to reopen Monday, not many did. Those who did are rearranging furniture to encourage social distancing, doing temperature checks, and limiting hotel capacity even though not many are visiting.

“We’re going to go back to the 1990s, before we had such a strong international tourism,” said Wendy Kallergis, president of the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotels Association. “Hopefully by the fall, we’ll be able to start getting domestic meetings back into the hotels.”
