ON THIS DAY

Yesterday afternoon, in a memo to its employees, the Jackson Health system announced the decision that executives and managers would be receiving pay cuts and other workers who do not provide patient care would be furloughed. As Miami-Dade’s public hospital, the cuts are required to help cushion the financial impact of coronavirus, especially after the cancellation of non-emergency visits. Executives will take a 20% cut until further notice, management a 10% cut, and both union and non-union employees, depending on their role, may be furloughed for up to two days a week. While taxes and county revenue provide a safety net for its hospitals on a typical year, the new stay-at-home order requiring non-essential business to close down is also expected to impact county healthcare.
