As of April 12th, 2020, there have been a total of ninety-seven deaths due to coronavirus across Miami-Dade County, with two of those deaths occurring in the last 24 hours. May those who have fallen to the pandemic rest in peace.

Total number of cases (Miami-Dade County): 7,058

Total number of hospitalizations: 531

Total number of deaths: 97

New cases in the last 24 hours: 304

New deaths in the last 24 hours: 2

Greetings neighbors, this is the Miami Corona Project Daily Update for Sunday, April12th, 2020:

As of yesterday, April 11th, 2020, there have been 6,754 positive cases of coronavirus across the county, with 523 hospitalizations and 95 deaths.

The Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation has updated the total number of employees that have tested positive for coronavirus to 40. This is especially troubling as this is only a statistic referencing department employees that have tested positive, not including any of the prison population that have the virus.

In Opa-Locka, 4 more Amazon warehouse workers tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases at this warehouse to at least six.

Across the United States, the national total of positive cases has grown to 530,384. Unfortunately, today our country overtook Italy as the nation with the most deaths from coronavirus, the total number of those fallen rising to 20,513.

Let’s hope today brings better news.  I’ll update you tomorrow.

ON THIS DAY

On a typical Easter Sunday, families across Miami-Dade attend mass and celebrations with hundreds of their neighbors. This year, Easter services were celebrated virtually from home because of the coronavirus pandemic and stay-at-home orders, a big change to the centuries old tradition. At Notre Dame D’Haiti Catholic Church, their Easter mass was live streamed on Facebook while just a handful of church goers worshipped in person, six feet apart.
