CORTADA SPEAKS TO ASPEN INSTITUTE FUTURE
LEADERS ABOUT ART, CLIMATE & MENTORSHIP

Xavier Cortada, Miami-Dade County’s inaugural artist-in-residence, was joined by Adam Roberti, the executive director of the Xavier Cortada Foundation, on March 5th in a conversation about the role of art in generating awareness and action around the climate crisis.

The Aspen Institute Future Leaders Climate Summit speakers discussed how to develop interdisciplinary partnerships and collaborations that rebuild ecosystems, spark climate conversations, and ultimately empower agents of change. They also talked about how intergenerational mentorships can create important opportunities for sharing knowledge, perspectives and inspiration.

Earlier that week, Cortada also delivered keynote speeches during the Miami Youth Climate Summit and Temple Beth Sholom’s Earth Summit.

CORTADA LAUNCHES "UNDERWATER FLORIDA" AT
UM LAW REVIEW SYMPOSIUM

On February 10th, Cortada premiered his Underwater Florida project at the University of Miami’s 2023 Law Review Symposium, “An Unequal Burden: Environmental Justice and the Climate Crisis.

Underwater Florida showcases how Cortada traveled to 54 coastal city halls and placed a sign at each, depicting their respective elevations above sea level. By doing this at the very place where city officials make decisions about municipal budgets, as well as land use, planning and zoning, the artist made visible the threat that sea level rise poses to each city’s future tax base.

Join us for “Art in the Gardens” on April 15th at Pinecrest Gardens for the opening of Underwater Florida.
