CELEBRATING 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF
CORTADA'S ANTARCTIC ARTWORK

You’re invited to join Cortada on Wednesday, October 26th, 2022 at 6pm in Pinecrest Gardens’ Hibiscus Gallery for an exhibition opening that features work he created 15 years ago in Antarctica, “The Markers: South Pole” and “150,000-year Journey.” In creating the works, Cortada used the moving ice sheet that blankets the South Pole as an instrument to mark time.

"UNDERWATER GULF" ON EXHIBIT AT
UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI FACULTY SHOW

During summer 2022, Cortada created and placed elevation markers at city halls in four Gulf states – Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana – depicting their elevations above sea level.

By doing this at the very place where city officials make decisions about municipal budgets, as well as land use, planning and zoning, Cortada made visible the threat that sea level rise poses to each city’s future tax base. The
2022 Faculty Exhibition is on view in Wynwood until November 10th, 2022.
