Proclamation
The Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners
Whereas:
Throughout the years, Miami-Dade County has strived to recognize the important efforts made by individuals, organizations and institutions, which embody the essence of our society; and
Whereas:
Xavier Cortada, who is known as Miami’s pioneer eco-artist and our County’s inaugural artist-in-residence, is being inducted into the State of Florida Artists Hall of Fame for his lifetime of dedication and contributions to our community; and
Whereas:
Mr. Cortada uses art’s elasticity to work across disciplines to engage communities in problem-solving, and his hard work has not gone unnoticed as he was the winner of the 2024 National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine Excellence in Science Communications Award; and
Whereas:
Over the last decade, this Cuban-American artist has created more than 150 public artworks, installations, collaborative murals and socially engaged projects, as he has been commissioned to create art for the White House, the World Bank, CERN, the Frost Art Museum and Miami City Hall; and
Whereas:
Highly praised for the achievements he has made in our community, Mr. Cortada has received a Creative Capital Award, and a 2021 Environmental Law Institute National Wetlands Award; hence it is fitting and proper that official acknowledgment be given to this exceptional artist;
Now Therefore:
BE IT RESOLVED, THAT I, DANIELLA LEVINE CAVA, MAYOR OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, CHAIRMAN OLIVER G. GILBERT, III AND THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, ON BEHALF OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND THIS COMMUNITY, do hereby proclaim, Friday, September 13, 2024, as
Xavier Cortada Day

I call upon the good people of Miami-Dade County to join me in honoring Xavier Cortada, wishing him the absolute best in all his future endeavors.
