April 28 – October 29, 2006 - The Reclamation Project: For a few months, mangrove seedlings will “reclaim” the island where they thrived just a few decades ago. Afterwards, the seedlings will be planted along Biscayne Bay.

May 13, 2006 (Teen Day) - Absence of Place: Views from Readers — This installation is inspired by The Miami Herald reader’s response to Absence of Place, an art piece by Xavier Cortada on exhibit at the Miami Art Museum (MAM) through October 29, 2006.
June 5th – June 30th, 2006. - Xavier Cortada will unveil “Allapattah” mural in the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus Auditorium. The 20-foot long mural was created with students from three local high schools and will be permanently installed in the City of Miami Allapattah NET Office. The collaborative mural project was organized by the Office of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and the Mayor’s Youth Council.

October 10 – November 10, 2006 - Xavier Cortada’s Heron painting will be presented to Mrs. Columba Bush, the First Lady of Florida as part of Florida’s Hispanic Heritage Month festivities. Mission San Luis de Apalachee dates from 1656. The western capital of the Spanish Mission system in La Florida, it was one of more than 100 mission settlements established in Spanish Florida during the 16th and 17th centuries. The painting will be on permanent display in the Mission San Luisvisitor’s center.
October 7, 2006 - Plural Miami, a group show curated by Antonio Zaya at the World Arts Building, 2214 N. Miami Avenue, Miami, FL.
- The Markers will be on exhibit at the Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium through December 11, 2006. In January 2007, the artist will plant the installation’s flags in the South Pole. Cortada is traveling to Antarctica through his National Science Foundation Antarctic Artists and Writers Program fellowship.
