January 6, 2005 - City of Miami and Hands on Miami present the Miami Mangrove Forest by Xavier Cortada a public art project created with the help of Hands on Miami volunteers. January 7, 2005 - Miami-Dade College North Campus unveiling “We’re in the Same Boat,” mural by Xavier Cortada commissioned by Hands on Miami.
March 7, 2005 - The National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association, Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) & Voices For Children Foundation in collaboration with renowned artist Xavier Cortada, has introduced an art program to help build self esteem for children in the foster care system.
- The Road to Hope Tour will travel 5,636 miles to 25 colleges and universities to educate students about HIV/AIDS. As part of this AIDS awareness campaign, Miami artist Xavier Cortada will create a national message mural receiving input from students at each tour stop.

April 9, 2005 - Unveiling of the “Protecting America’s Children: A national message mural” at CWLA’s (Child Welfare League of America) Children’s Memorial Flag Initiative, a public awareness campaign to direct attention to the tragedy of violent child deaths as part of a national initiative to reduce child mortality. Washington, D.C.
April 22, 2005 - International Arts Partnership Forum: Co-hosted by First Lady Columba Bush and Secretary of State Glenda E. Hood, the forum’s goal is to discuss current successful models of international cultural exchange projects and to create cultural exchanges among the countries represented. Attendees will come from Colombia, Mexico, Japan, Washington, DC, Texas, Atlanta and from all over Florida. Miami artist Xavier Cortada is to serve as one of four forum panelists.

September 2-4, 2005 - This year’s cover artwork was created especially for Festival Miami 2005 by Xavier Cortada, a renowned Miami artist and UM law school alumnus. The stunning cover presents a bold and colorful blend of musical instruments set adrift against playful waves and deep blue sky.

December 3, 2005 - Color Field Painting: Xavier Cortada will serve as Artistic Director of several Hands on Miami Day volunteer-driven mural projects, including Color Field where hundreds of volunteers will join the artist in painting the 149 columns holding up 1-95 from the edge of the Miami River to S.W. 8th Street in solid colors. The artist will also lead volunteers in the creation of murals at Miami Senior High School and the Northern Bank of the 27th Avenue Bridge at the Miami River.
