- Xavier Cortada will lead participants of the 5th Annual Conference of the AIDS Policy Center for Children, Youth and Families, “Voices 99: Renewing the Commitment,” in the creation of a collaborative mural. The mural will be unveiled by the artist, several Congress people and the nation’s “AIDS Czar” Sandy Thurman, on Capitol Hill on the 25th of May, 1999, Washington, D.C.
- Xavier Cortada will use Internet technology to create art projects with students in four Miami-Dade elementary schools. This month-long project is a continuation of the Master Peace and WebStudio efforts.
- Created three original pieces which Merck Pharmaceuticals’ community service volunteers reproduced as indoor murals in the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind Children’s Activity Room, April 28, 1999.
- Opening of the Webstudio— an Internet-based collaborative art project, which allows participants to interact with the artist through two webcams and a live chatroom. The WebStudio is sponsored by a New Forms grant from the Miami Dade Cultural Affairs Council and the Art Center South Florida. April’s WebStudio Sessions focus on the topic of Love.
