Pinecrest Gardens' Hibiscus Gallery hosts "Elevation Markers" Exhibition Opening
Saturday, March 16, 2024
Hibiscus Gallery, Pinecrest Gardens
11000 SW 57th Ave. Pinecrest, FL 33156
The “Elevation Markers” exhibit at Hibiscus Gallery showcases Xavier Cortada’s visionary fusion of art and environmental activism. This exhibit features the sustainable concrete elevation markers that will be scattered throughout Miami-Dade’s 250+ parks, revealing the region’s vulnerability to sea level rise. As the county’s Artist-in-Residence, Cortada is creating a tangible dialogue about climate change across the community.
The sculptures, crafted from seawater, recycled materials, and non-metallic reinforcement, are a testament to environmentally conscious art. Each marker’s QR code links the viewer to their own home elevation, expanding the installation into a county-wide call for awareness. This interactive component invites personal action, turning spectators into participants.
Sponsorship for this exhibition was provided by an Ellies Creator Award from Oolite Arts.
