On Tuesday, September 5th 2023, the Xavier Cortada Foundation partnered with WeCount! for the ¡Que Calor! Community Conversation on Extreme Heat.

After attendees discussed the ongoing campaign to pass a Heat Standard for Outdoor Workers in Miami-Dade County, everyone wrote “Letters to the Future” in an effort to envision what an equitable and just 2123 will look like.

The Heat Standard being advocated for entails:
1. Require comprehensive protections for outdoor workers
2.Set standard procedure: employer heat safety program
3. Provide enforcement with civil/criminal penalties
4. Establish Office of Workplace Health and Safety
