On June 5th, 2022, Her Majesty’s General Consul in Miami Nicolette Brent, Karl Brent and Xavier Cortada were joined by Village of Pinecrest officials, Councilmember Katie Abbott and Councilmember Anna Hochkammer, Pinecrest Gardens Director Alana Golembo-Perez and Xavier Cortada Foundation Executive Director Adam Roberti, as they planted a Lignum vitae tree at Pinecrest Gardens to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

In partnership with the British Consulate in Miami, the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, and the Xavier Cortada Foundation, South Florida residents were invited to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee by participating in Native Flags, receiving a free tree and replica of the flag that Cortada planted at the North Pole to launch a reforestation effort in the world below. The effort was limited to 70 participants to honor Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.

Based at Pinecrest Gardens’ Eco-art Colonnade, Native Flags is a participatory eco-art project by Xavier Cortada designed to engage local residents in restoring native habitats for plants and animals in urban areas.
