One Degree of Change is a one-day conference hosted by Miami Dade College (MDC) — as organized by MDC’s Earth Ethics Institute and supported by MDC’s Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy, Learning Resources, Live Arts Miami, and other partners.

This hybrid (in-person and online) changemaking event, focused on UN Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action, features prominent speakers and offers the opportunity to engage with local organizations as well as faculty, staff, and students working on climate change awareness and solutions. Art breaks facilitated by Live Arts Miami will give the event extra energy! All are welcome to attend.

  • 8 – 8:50am: Breakfast and coffee
  • 8:50 – 9:00am: Welcome Remarks: Michael Matthews, MDC’s Earth Ethics Institute Director
  • 9 – 9:50am: Session 1: Caroline Lewis, CLEO Institute Founder & Senior Climate Advisor
  • 10 – 10:50am: Session 2: John Morales, NBC 6 Hurricane Specialist & Chief Meteorologist
  • 11 – 11:50am: Session 3: Xavier Cortada, Miami-Dade County Inaugural Artist-in-Residence & University of Miami Professor of Practice
  • 12 – 1:15pm: Networking Lunch with Community Partners & Xavier Cortada’s Hello Project
  • 1:25 – 2:40pm: Session 4: Panel Discussion featuring MDC faculty involved in Climate Change research
  • 2:50 – 4:05pm: Session 5: Miami-Dade County Office of Resilience (Climate Action Plan)
