On Wednesday, September 2nd, join the Underwater HOA for our virtual monthly meeting presentation and discussion: Environmental Impacts and Resource Dependency of Digital/Online Culture, with Hunter Vaughan, author, media scholar, and Environmental Media Scholar-in-Residence at University of Colorado Boulder. Mr. Vaughan will present an often overlooked dimension to climate change in how technology and its widespread utilization for mass communications is contributing to climate change through large scale energy extraction and consumption.
We will also breakout into our two Underwater HOA subcommittees: Pinecrest UHOA or Engagement & Programming.

Environmental Media Scholar-in-Residence
University of Colorado Boulder
Hunter Vaughan is a cultural historian and environmental media scholar, focusing on the relationship between media, social power, & the environment. He is the Environmental Media Scholar-in-Residence at the University of Colorado Boulder and author of Hollywood’s Dirtiest Secret: the Hidden Environmental Costs of the Movies (Columbia University Press, 2019). Vaughan is also principle investigator on an international AHRC grant to build a Global Green Media Production Network to facilitate and support environmentally responsible film and media production initiatives around the world, as well as founder and editor (w/ Meryl Shriver-Rice) of the Journal of Environmental Media (Intellect Books), an interdisciplinary scholarly platform bridging work in environmental studies, social justice, and science communication through the prism of screen media.
