Cortada Projects invites you to Futurescape Miami: Skyline to Shoreline, a public presentation by the Facebook Art Department and Facebook Analog Research Lab, as part of UNTITLED, ART Fair’s Monuments Program during Art Basel Miami 2019 from Wednesday, Dec. 4 to Sunday, Dec. 8.

Thursday, Dec. 5 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

The Underwater Homeowners Association meeting convenes neighbors in addressing sea-level rise along coastlines across the globe. 

The Underwater Homeowners Association is an effort to turn neighbors into climate-change advocates. Cortada asks homeowners to repurpose “for sale” and political signs, painting partially-submerged numbers that announce how many feet above sea level each property is, for people to plant in their front yards. 

“By mapping the impending crisis, I make the invisible visible,” Cortada said, “Block by block, house by house, neighbor by neighbor, I want to make the future impact of sea-level rise something impossible to ignore. Ultimately, I hope to engage my neighbors as problem-solvers who will learn and work together now to better prepare themselves and their heirs for the chaos to come.”
