Where do we come from, and how did we get to where we live today? The story of humanity’s migratory journey out of Africa is encoded in our shared DNA. The Genographic Project, National Geographic and IBM’s global initiative, is gathering and analyzing the world’s largest collection of anthropological DNA samples in the hope to capture an invaluable genetic snapshot of humankind’s migratory history before it is lost forever. Inspired by the Genographic Project, Miami artist Xavier Cortada will unveil an installation welcoming about 20 Miami residents born in different Latin American countries and Spain to a family reunion. As their common ancestors are all from Africa, this art piece explores where they last dined together tens of thousands of years ago as they went their separate ways to inhabit our shared planet.
