Play includes Cortada’s “Absence of Place” photos from PAMM Collection
What if Works focuses its gaze on the increasing number of historic structures falling victim to the bulldozer by performing Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, an examination of the value of home, identity, history and memory, as the self-made Lopakhin returns to purchase the estate where he was once an indentured serf.
Nineteenth Century Russia and 21st Century Miami coalesce through the integration of images from “Absence of Place,” a collection of photographic images recorded by environmental artist/activist Xavier Cortada and published through The Miami Heralddepicting spaces and places in Miami that are no more. They are used with permission and courtesy of Pérez Art Museum of Miami.
