SUMMARY:Plan(T) Library Presentation - Coral Gables
DESCRIPTION:Plan(T) Home | About | Schools | Libraries | Farmer’s Market | Frost Science | Lincoln Road | Science Advisors | Press | Events\n  \nJoin us on Wednesday\, Oct. 23 at the Coral Gables Library at 4:30 p.m. to learn how global climate change is impacting your community and what local environmental artist\, Xavier Cortada and Miami-Dade Chief Resilience Officer\, Jim Murley\, are doing to help combat it! \nPlan(T) is Cortada’s latest participatory eco-art project. It aims to expand South Florida’s mangrove forest by asking residents to plant mangrove propagules\, or seedlings\, in their own backyards. Mangroves are salt-tolerant plants that act as natural barriers against storm surge\, sequester carbon dioxide and help grow our native tree canopy. By planting them\, you are taking a step towards a better and safer future for South Florida. \nMiami-Dade’s Miami-Dade Office of Resilience is also taking steps towards a better South Florida with Resilient305\, a plan that is working towards reducing the community’s climate pollution\, preparing the community for climate change\, and engaging the community with these efforts. The plan’s strategies include creating green and blue spaces\, enhancing housing options and increasing overall energy efficiency. \nWe will be giving a presentation as to how Cortada’s county-wide project came to be\, how you can join it\, and how you can also get involved with Resilient305. \nAt the end of the presentation\, we will be handing out free mangrove seedlings to attendees\, along with an elevation-marked flag to paint at home (or at the library) so you can be part of Cortada’s movement! \nIf you can’t join us at this event\, stay on the look out for more presentations on our site. You can also follow us @cortadaprojects on Instagram\, Facebook and Twitter for updates! \nStart the conversation about climate change and start preparing for the future by planTing for our future! \n  \nPresentation Highlights: \n           \n— \nBack to all 2019 Events
