Cortada Projects invites you to join us at Pinecrest Gardens on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 11:00 a.m. for the dedication ceremony of Xavier Cortada’s “Pinecrest Mangrove Forest: Plan(T) for the Future.” Cortada’s eco-art intervention, which includes seedlings collected by his Plan(T) project volunteers, is Miami’s first urban mangrove forest.
The mangrove forest was planted in the botanical garden’s parking lot and foreshadows the future tree canopy that will come as sea-levels continue to rise. A new 200-foot-long mural painted by Xavier Cortada serves as the backdrop for the urban forest. The dedication of the forest and mural exemplifies Cortada’s goal of planting mangrove seedlings in urban areas to better prepare South Florida for the impacts of climate change, such as sea-level rise and saltwater intrusion.

We hope to see you there to witness something truly memorable!
