SUMMARY:CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19: Mangrove in Every MDC Public School
DESCRIPTION:Plan(T) Home | About | Schools | Libraries | Farmer’s Market | Frost Science | Lincoln Road | Science Advisors | Press | Events\n  \n\nIn honor of Earth Day\, Cortada Projects planned to be sending a mangrove and customized elevation-marked flag to each and every public school in Miami-Dade County\, making each school a part of our county-wide project\, Plan(T). Due to COVID-19\, this event has been postponed. Artist Xavier Cortada has planted a mangrove and flag outside of his studio in honor of the schools that did not get to receive their mangroves\, promising that Cortada Projects will bring Plan(T) back once schools reopen.\n\nPlan(T)\n\nPlan(T) is Miami-based environmental artist Xavier Cortada’s latest participatory eco-art project. Its “mangrove in every yard” reforestation effort\, encourages residents to plant a mangrove seedling and elevation-marked flag in their yards to facilitate climate conversations\, help sequester carbon dioxide\, and grow our salt-tolerant native tree canopy. \nAs part of Earth Day\, Cortada Projects had partnered with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to plant a mangrove and customized elevation-marked flag in each and every public school. Planting salt tolerant mangroves in high ground will help to safeguard vulnerable areas of our city and provide future seed stock for areas surrendered to rising seas. \nHowever\, due to the pandemic 19\, this participatory eco-art effort had to be postponed. Cortada Projects will bring Plan(T) back once schools reopen. \n\nBy planting them with students in each Miami-Dade public school\, we grow a cadre of engaged future leaders are take steps towards a better and safer future for the South Florida community!\n\n\n\n\n \n— \nBack to all 2020 Events
