Art Miami‘s elevation stands at just 3.27 feet above sea level.
Cortada is bringing HELLO to its doors to have conversations about how climate change will impact Miami through the power of art.
Earlier this month in Glasgow, artist Xavier Cortada launched the HELLO project, which aimed to reframe the way delegates of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) saw one another and their collective vulnerability, notably to the risks associated with global climate change and sea level rise. Rather than using a traditional name tag, the art fair’s attendees are instead challenged to identify themselves with qualifiers such as their personal elevations, hopes, and fears.
“My art has a sense of urgency, not desperation,” said Cortada. “Painting about our climate catastrophe is not enough. Art has a role in engaging citizens to address humanity’s greatest challenge.”
