SUMMARY:The Green Project -- concurrent with Art Basel\, Miami Florida
DESCRIPTION:12/3/2008 to 12/7/2008\n\n\nWhen:\n12/03/2008\n11:00 am to 8::00 pm\n\n\nWhere:\nThe Green Project\n64 NW 29th Street\nwww.projectfairs.com\nMiami\, Florida  33127\n\n\nContact:\nProject Fairs\npr@projectfairs.com\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou Must Be The Change You Want To See In The World\, Mahatma Gandhi \n  \nThe Green Project is an interactive and performative event curated by New York based Claire Oliver Gallery\, and produced by Project Fairs and their environmentally conscious global partners. Visitors will experience socially relevant site specific art projects\, housed in The Green Pavilion: a 3\,000 square foot tensile structure and gardens located in Miami’s Wynwood art district. \nDirectly across the street from the world-renowned Rubell Family Collection and held contemporaneously with Art Basel Miami\, The Green Project will offer a unique environment for art lovers to relax\, socialize\, and reflect on current issues. The Green Project offers a number of experiences within a unique artistic and social space. \nVisitors are invited to dine at a café serving fresh and delicious fare among outdoor art installations. Free live performances will occur throughout the weekend such as Pop Ark Remix where the artists Noah Fischer and Gregoire Paultre appear as Polar-Bear Shamans to spread the emotional message about a warming planet. \nIn Endangered World\, Xavier Cortada invites visitors to “adopt” one of 360 endangered species and claim its habitat by planting a flag at the corresponding longitudinal point in the installation. In Native Flags\, Xavier Cortada encourages visitors to take home a green flag and plant it with a native tree in their front yard\, reclaiming that space for nature. \nTo finish each day’s program\, from six until eight pm\, The Green Project hosts a cocktail party courtesy of Svedka Vodka. The Green Project Mission: Global climate change and the need for sustainable energy are no longer mere theory or conjecture; the time is right to examine the choices we make day to day and the very real effect they have on the world around us. \nThe Green Project provides a platform for this environmental awareness within the community of artists and art appreciators. The Green Project is proud to debut in Miami which saw over 43\,000 international and domestic visitors\, 1\,600 journalists and over 100 museum groups during last year’s festivities. Artists have an historical precedent of foreshadowing and influencing world cultural shifts. By focusing on art as an empowering encounter The Green Project brings artistic voices to an engaged audience The Artists at The Green Project: “Genuine art is an affair of the people\, essentially social in character. We must learn to bring art into our thinking. All real philosophers have been artists in the realm of concepts.” Rudolph Steiner \nThe artists in The Green Project were selected for their continued commitment to content driven work that raises questions about social priorities. These artists propose a message of personal empowerment in the face of the vast challenges of our time such as global climate change\, species extinction and world resource depletion. \nXavier Cortada: Fusing art\, scientific knowledge and civic engagement\, Miami artist Xavier Cortada creates site-specific eco-art installations exploring our connection to the natural world. \nThroughout The Green Project\, Cortada will perform 90N\, a series of ritualistic installations to address global climate change. Attendees will participate in performances that connect local Floridians with people and animals worldwide. Cortada will also distribute green flags to encourage attendees to reclaim their front yards for nature\, regrowing earth’s native canopy one tree at a time. \nlearn more at www.XavierCortada.com \nSpecial performance and lecture schedule: \nWednesday \n11:00 am Performance: Xavier Cortada\, Native Flags Green Project opening performance \nOngoing spontaneous performance: Xavier Cortada and participating visitors to the event Longitudinal Installation Endangered World: 0 degrees to 89 degrees East \n6:00 pm Performance: North Pole Dinner Party \n7:45 pm Performance: Xavier Cortada\, Wind Words 0 degrees to 89 degrees East \nThursday \nongoing spontaneous performance: Xavier Cortada and participating visitors to the event: Longitudinal Installation Endangered World: 90 degrees East to 179 degrees East \n4:00 pm Justine Kwiatkowski\, spokeswoman for the Fresh Kills Park Project explains the grass roots movement that has brought about one of the most ambitious public works projects in the world.
