Endangered World: Facebook

During 2009-10, I will draw an endangered animal from each of Earth’s 360 degrees and upload it as my profile image. Via this social networking site, I aim to show the ultimate interconnection: What endangers one species affects all, including our own. On January 1st, I started at zero degrees East and have moved a fourth of the way across our planet. In uploading images to this particiular facebook album, I started at 90 degrees East, drawing the Wild Asian Water Buffalo, an animal which I featured in my North Pole (360 animals) and South Pole (24 animals) installations. With the number of extinct species increasing, Miami artist Xavier Cortada addressed the need to protect our endangered species through the Endangered World Installations at the South Pole (2007) and North Pole (2008).
