I Plant for My Children: Dedication

On January 26th, a special dedication ceremony for the “I Plant for my Children” mural was led by Rabbi Gayle Pomerantz, involving the children of the Ansin family, who have been integral members of Temple Beth Sholom since 1942.

The mural, a hand-carved ceramic artwork by artist Xavier Cortada, was commissioned by the Ansin Family Foundation in honor of the 80th anniversary of Temple Beth Sholom. It beautifully represents the deep roots and interconnectedness of the temple’s congregation, with mangroves serving as the central motif to symbolize this theme.

During the ceremony, brothers Andy and James Ansin spoke about the significance and the purpose of their family’s gift. Following their remarks, Cortada provided insight into the deeper meaning behind his artwork. The mural, with its mangrove imagery, stands as a testament to the enduring bonds within the congregation. Enhancing its message, the Talmudic verse “As my ancestors planted for me, so do I plant for my children” is inscribed above the plaque, resonating with the themes of legacy and continuity.

Temple Beth Sholom is located at 4144 Chase Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33140.
