what's your number?

As a way of piquing the curiosity of Miami High’s student body prior to bringing The Underwater to their school, Cortada worked with faculty and staff to have student clubs create the “What’s your number?” campaign. Although the question is referring to the number the students discover when they figure out their homes’ elevations above sea level, none of the students involved in creating the banners and posters knew that, leaving them and the rest of their classmates to wonder what the question could possibly mean. Individual numbers between 1 and 24 (the range, in feet, of Miami’s elevation above sea level) were then plastered around the school as a way of maintaining speculation about the ambiguous question while also providing all of its possible answers.
