HELLO
HELLO is a participatory art project created by Xavier Cortada aimed at reframing the way we see one another and our collective vulnerability, notably to the risks associated with global climate change and sea level rise. Rather than using a traditional name tag, participants are challenged to instead identify themselves with qualifiers such as their personal elevations, hopes, and fears.

Cortada adapted his original HELLO project to a high school setting with the aim of adding another layer of interactivity during the implementation of The Underwater. After the Underwater Stories had been given to every science class in the school, students were invited to hold up an oversized version of their newly discovered number in front of a large “HELLO my elevation is” banner.
