On the 7th day of the COP26 Conference, Cortada sought to challenge all those who chose to stay on the sidelines as this assault on future generations intensifies. In his performance, “I Know You Are In There,” he seeks to awaken “our collective consciousness” by knocking loudly on the doors of a building in Old Edinburgh. In the work the artist explicitly challenges us to do our part to address this climate emergency: Why aren’t we speaking out? Why aren’t we doing more?
