The Green Project is an interactive and performative event curated by New York based Claire Oliver Gallery, and produced by Project Fairs and their environmentally conscious global partners. Visitors will experience socially relevant site specific art projects, housed in The Green Pavilion: a 3,000 square foot tensile structure and gardens located in Miami’s Wynwood art district. Directly across the street from the world renowned Rubell Family Collection and held contemporaneously with Art Basel Miami, The Green Project will offer an unique environment for art lovers to relax, socialize, and reflect on current issues. The Green Project offers a number of experiences within a unique artistic and social space. Visitors are invited to dine at a café serving fresh and delicious fare among outdoor art installations. Free live performances will occur throughout the weekend such as Pop Ark Remix where the artists Noah Fischer and Gregoire Paultre appear as Polar-Bear Shamans to spread the emotional message about a warming planet. In Endangered World, Xavier Cortada invites visitors to “adopt” one of 360 endangered species and claim its habitat by planting a flag at the corresponding longitudinal point in the installation. In Native Flags, Xavier Cortada encourages visitors to take home a green flag and plant it with a native tree in their front yard, reclaiming that space for nature. To finish each day’s program, from six until eight pm, The Green Project hosts a cocktail party courtesy of Svedka Vodka. The Green Project Mission: Global climate change and the need for sustainable energy are no longer mere theory or conjecture; the time is right to examine the choices we make day to day and the very real effect they have on the world around us. The Green Project provides a platform for this environmental awareness within the community of artists and art appreciators. The Green Project is proud to debut in Miami which saw over 43,000 international and domestic visitors, 1,600 journalists and over 100 museum groups during last year’s festivities. Artists have an historical precedent of foreshadowing and influencing world cultural shifts. These artists propose a message of personal empowerment in the face of the vast challenges of our time such as global climate change, species extinction and world resource depletion. Xavier Cortada: Fusing art, scientific knowledge and civic engagement, Miami artist Xavier Cortada creates site-specific eco-art installations exploring our connection to the natural world. Throughout The Green Project, Cortada will perform 90N, a series of ritualistic installations to address global climate change. Attendees will participate in performances that connect local Floridians with people and animals worldwide.
