Total number of cases (Miami-Dade County): 12,063

Total number of hospitalizations: 1,509

Total number of deaths: 352

New cases in the last 24 hours: 136

New deaths in the last 24 hours: 14

Greetings neighbors, this is the Miami Corona Project Daily Update for Thursday, April 30th, 2020:

As of yesterday, there have been 11,927 positive cases of coronavirus across the county, with 1,445 hospitalizations and a total of 338 deaths–fourteen more than yesterday.

Tracking the trends of known coronavirus cases and deaths is a critical factor in understanding whether we are “flattening the curve” of new infections.

In Florida, known cases are doubling every 27.3 days.  In Miami, every 29.8 days.  A “doubling rate” is how long it will take for the current number of cases to double by examining the rate of growth over the last seven days.

Across the United States, the national total of positive cases is now 1,036,652, the total number of dead has risen to 60,475.

Let’s hope today brings better news.  I’ll update you tomorrow.

ON THIS DAY

Just yesterday, recreational spaces like parks and marinas opened for the first time in Miami-Dade County. However, Miami Beach police reported that 652 people were issued warnings for not wearing face masks, 145 people were removed from parks, and 23 social distance warnings were issued on the first day. These numbers only increased today for a total of 1,551 face mask violations within the first two days. Officials warn that if residents can’t comply, they will look into shutting recreational spaces once again, suggesting a safe reopening for the county will be a slower process than previously thought.
