ON THIS DAY

Blood plasma transfusions across South Florida are helping to save the lives of critically ill COVID-19 patients. Officials believe that plasma from someone who has previously tested positive for COVID-19 contains antibodies to help others fight infection.

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez donated his plasma in a transfusion to help a patient at Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables as the first recovered patient to participate in this therapy. Anyone can donate, so long as you are at least 18 years of age, have tested positive for COVID-19, and have been hospitalized for complications.
