ON THIS DAY

The CARES Act contains $9.5 billion in assistance for agriculture producers who have been impacted by COVID-19. In the meantime, Miami-Dade County is allocating almost $900,000 to food banks and community-based groups like Farm Share and Feeding South Florida for purchasing produce from our local farmers. With our entire hospitality and tourism industry out of commission due to the pandemic, farmers around the country find themselves with plummeting sales. Now that Miami-Dade officials are stepping up to help while farmers await federal funding, these businesses are staying afloat, in turn producing less food waste and providing for those in need.
