One nursing home resident from the Florida Keys tells of his experience during the pandemic as a living nightmare. Guy Rehmann, a 64-year-old resident with multiple sclerosis and in a wheelchair, says he has been bathed once in the last six days and hasn’t been able to brush his teeth in nearly two weeks. He was tested positive but is asymptomatic, and has been in the facility’s wing dedicated to those with the virus among more than a dozen residents who have also tested positive. Another woman, whose father is in his 80s, said she used to do his laundry for him, but now its taking staff up to two weeks to run a load.

Since mid-March, the state has banned in-person visitations to nursing homes, but those inside this Plantation Key facility have also complained they have had little contact with their loved ones by phone and a lack of transparency about coronavirus through the facility.
