DASS Salon Art-Science Talk: Physicist Pete Markowitz and Artist Xavier Cortada
October 22, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE. The CERN particle accelerator, used to study the nature of matter, enabled the discovery of the Higgs boson, a particle fundamental to all matter but smaller that an atom. We feature physicist Pete Markowitz, member of the team that discovered the Higgs boson, for which the Nobel Prize was awarded, and Xavier Cortada, Artist in Residence at FIU. He interpreted particle physics in a series of banners, finding the intersection between art and science.
Modeled after TED Talks and a local social club, DASS (Downtown Arts Science Salon) is about science, innovation, art and intelligent conversation. We host salons in topics ranging from archaeology and cardiology to urban planning and journalism, from robotics to language and the opera. And fun stuff: fencing, wine-tasting, tango and jazz.
