On Monday, Oct. 28 at 9:00 a.m. local environmental artist, Xavier Cortada will be introducing the students and faculty of MAST Academy in Key Biscayne his Reclamation Project.

The Reclamation Project began in 2007, but is still being carried out in the state of Florida using its original model. The first step of the project involves the installation of mangrove propagules in a grid like system on windows of an urban area. After a certain period of time, these mangroves will be taken to an area in which they use to flourish.

As participants replant these mangroves, they will be reclaiming the area for nature, hence the name, the Reclamation Project!

Cortada will be installing the project in MAST Academy and giving a presentation about its significance to the South Florida community and the importance of the school’s contribution to the project.
