Xavier Cortada helps 3-year-old Kristin Alexis Agosto with her drawing at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Children’s Cancer Clinic where about 150 children participated in the “Arts in Medicine” project made possible by a grant from the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council.
 

Engaged Projects

  • Bridging the Gap” – Capturing the diverse stories of people with AIDS to present a full picture of their struggles, triumphs, disparities and universalities associated with the disease (created for the 12th International AIDS Conference, Geneva, Switzerland).
  • Special Olympics Mural” – Showcasing the unlimited possibilities for students with intellectual disabilities through art during the Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies (created with students from Ms. Janet Ludwig’s classroom at Kensington Park Elementary School for the Special Olympics of Dade County Opening Ceremonies, Miami, FL).
  • Reach for the Future” – Connecting generations of students at Palm Springs Middle School and inspiring a message of hope for the future (created with students from Ms. Maggie Morales’ art class at Palm Springs Middle School, sponsored by Miami-Dade Art in Public Places Trust, Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council, Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, Miami-Dade Public Schools and Bisazza North America, Miami, FL).
  • First Night” – Examining how others around the world have persevered through challenges and creating a platform for participants to reflect on how they can create a better version of themselves in the new millennium (Miami Beach, FL).

  • FIRST NIGHT – Cortada will bring in the new year by facilitating “1999: Preparing for a new Me-llennium” on December 31, 1998 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
  • Unveiling of Master Peace murals and art projects at South Miami High School, JRE Lee Alternative School, Ponce de Leon Middle School, and Kinlock Park Middle School during the second week of December 1998.
  • U.S. unveiling of the Bridging the Gap Mural: (a collaborative mural created by the participants of the United Nation’s 12th World AIDS Conference): Miami Dade Health Department World AIDS Day Celebration in Liberty City on December 5, 1998.
