“Clear-Cut”

clear-cut-rehearsalInformed by scientists at the UF School of Forest Resources and Conservation, visual artist Xavier Cortada collaborated with choreographers Whitney Wilson and Tiffany Rhynard to develop a performative piece about logging, consumerism and conservation.

The work, comprised of two parts, begins on stage where dancers invite the audience to conclude the dance by planting a sapling at home.

Creative-cut generates awareness about the choices we make as individuals and as society when we choose to produce and consume our resources. It also engages the audience in the problem-solving.

The collaborative process also served as a beautiful reflection of a positive method to come together as people and use our resources efficiently as many people have provided their skills, time, and resources to help build this piece, including choreographers, video designers, costume designers, scene designers, musicians, visual artists, scientists, forest specialists, and administrators.
