The artist created the “convictim” mural during Fall 2001 with the participation of juvenile offenders aged 14 – 18 incarcerated at Miami’s Turner Guilford Knight Corrections Facility waiting to be tried or sentenced as adults.

The mural was sponsored through of ArtCARE: Outreach to Juveniles Being Tried as Adults a project presented by Miami-Dade Art in Public Places and the Law Offices of Bennett H. Brummer, Public Defender (the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida), and sponsored by the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council, the Department of Juvenile Justice, Weed and Seed, BACARDI, USA, the East Little Havana Community Development Corporation, and http://cortada.com/
